A New Year’s Resolution

Surfer at Asilomar Beach — Jan. 3, 2025

“The two things in life you are in total control over are your attitude and your effort.” – Billy Cox

It’s a new year and my resolutions loom large. Sometimes they just seem bigger than me, outside of my control. But all around me I see people putting in the effort, doing what needs to be done to get to the next step. So I’m choosing to be inspired by the woman with the surfboard in this picture. No, I’m not going surfing at Asilomar Beach. I’m a fiction writer. I’m going back to my manuscript to wrestle with my characters a little more.

Over the holidays I got a professional edit for my manuscript, even though I really didn’t want to hear that anything was wrong with it. It was already as good as I could make it. But with the advantage of a new perspective from the edit, I realize I can still mold it into better shape. So up and at ‘em girl. There’s a few more waves coming down the pipe that I need to catch before my novel is published and I’m ready for the ride.
