Summer in California When the Grass is Dry and Yellow
Today my neighbor caught me pulling out some tall grass on public property. I was trying to clear an overgrown trail that goes from our neighborhood to a favorite dog park. My thinking was that when the grass turns dry and yellow later in the season, it will attract ticks. Right now the ground’s still moist and the grass pulls out easily. He pondered my explanation, and then said he’d clear another section of the trail with his weed whacker.
So what’s that got to do with writing? Well, writing may feel like a lonely endeavor, but when you share what you’re doing with others, they can help. They can read your work and give you a new perspective on it. They can edit it. They can collaborate with you on developing plot or they might suggest an alternative ending. That’s not cheating. When you put in the work, others are attracted to it and will want to support you.
